France Faces Nigeria

France and Nigeria are going to be up against each other in the fifth pre quarter final match of the ongoing FIFA World Cup this Monday.

These two teams were always going to make it to the knockouts. Yes, Iran had got some players with spunk and they might have looked like standing a chance of qualifying along with Argentina from Group F, but, at the end, Nigeria proved to be stronger and ended up advancing.

As far as the Les Blues are concerned, they are one of the best teams presently and neither of the other three teams in Group E had any chance against them. Yes, Ecuador stopped them on a goalless draw in their last group match, but, that’s not an issue. They had already advanced to the knockouts and thus, were probably lacking a bit of intensity and motivation there.

But, that’s not going to be the case when they take on Nigeria. They would be up for the task there; that’s for sure.

Karim Benzema has been France’s stand-out performer till now. He has found the net on three occasions, while, a couple of times, he has set it up for other players. So, he has influenced 5 out of the 8 goals that France has scored so far in the tournament.

Nigeria is also not lacking aggression up front with Ahmed Musa there who is known for his counter attacking.

The real difference between the two sides might be the midfield. France looks very strong in that area. Nigeria has also got a decent playmaker in the form of John Obi Mikel, but, he would need support.

France looks the clear favourites to win this one. So, there will be more pressure on them. The Nigerians won’t mind the status of underdogs.
