Ruben Neves quizzed about joining ‘big club’ Manchester City

Portugal international Ruben Neves has said that he is currently focused on his duties for club and country. The 22-year-old has been a revelation since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers from Porto two years ago and he was recently part of the team which secured a shock 2-0 triumph over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Neves has been linked with a move to the Citizens on multiple occasions in the past and when asked about the possibility of joining the Premier League holders, he told: “I don’t think about that. I try to do my best, both at the club and at the national team. Whatever comes will come naturally. I focus on my work to the fullest.”

The Portuguese midfielder was criticised for making the move to the Championship with Wolves a couple of years ago but the same has proved dividends with the west Midlands outfit now competing in the Premier League. Moreover, Nuno’s men have European football to play for after their seventh placed finish last term and it will be interesting to see whether they can make progress beyond the group stage of the Europa League.

Wolves made a dreadful beginning to the league campaign with just four points registered from the opening six matches. However, they have redeemed themselves with successive league victories and the most recent of those came against Manchester City, where they were second best but managed to secure maximum points after two goals from Adama Traore on the counter-attack.

Neves is currently with the Portuguese national team for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Luxembourg and Ukraine. They are currently in a good position to qualify for next year’s continental competition through the group but can’t afford any slip-ups with Serbia right behind them. Ljubisa Tumbakovic’s side are currently one point behind the Nations League champions in the third spot but have played an extra game more.
