SPORTING LISBON CONTACT UNITED OVER MIDFIELDER TRANSFER

Portuguese league side Sporting Lisbon have been in contact with English Premier League giants Manchester United as they look to sign midfielder Nemanja Matic from the Old Trafford club. Matic has seen his place in the United team come under danger in recent months as manager Olé Gunnar Solksjær has preferred the likes of Scott McTominay and Fred in his position.

Matic was signed from Chelsea by former manager José Mourinho and has helped the club in recent years by dedicating his loyalty and service since becoming a Red Devil. He has also been restricted to just a couple of appearances in the current campaign and has been linked with a move away from the club. He has attracted interest from a handful of clubs across Europe, Germany, and from the United States Major League Soccer as well.

Italian side Lazio have shown interest in signing him sometime last summer, but we’re unable to do so and snapped up Andreas Pereira from the Red Devils instead. Bayer Leverkusen from Germany have also shown an interest in him in the last few months, but it looks like Sporting Lisbon are the ones who have shown the most interest and seriousness to sign the Serbian international midfielder.

United and Sporting Lisbon have a cordial relationship and have both worked to complete the transfer of a couple of transfers over the years, including the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Nani, Marcos Rojo, and most recently, Bruno Fernandes all following similar career paths by moving from the Portuguese side to Old Trafford.

That tradition could continue if Lisbon can convince both United and Matic that the transfer would favor all parties, and if that becomes the case, the transfer could go ahead in the summer.
