Wolves are reportedly hoping to convince Matheus Nunes to join the club when they take on Sporting CP this weekend. Wanderers have now flown out to Portugal to play a couple more games before their Premier League opener against Leeds United on August 6. Wolves are facing Sporting on Saturday. Bruno Lage is expected to field his strongest XI. And on Sunday Wolves are playing against SC Farense in their final warm up match. Saturday’s game will be interesting for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, Francisco Trincao now plays for them after spending the 2021/22 season on loan at Molineux, and his performance will be a point of intrigue. Secondly, Nunes – a player who has been heavily linked with Wolves over the past couple of months – will be featuring. The latest on the situation is that he supposedly rejected an offer from Wolves. And according to Correio da Manha, Wolves are looking to take advantage of the fact the two teams are meeting for a game.
It is reported by the outlet that this will be ‘the last card’ to convince Nunes of the project at Molineux. It is thought Bruno Lage would love to bring Nunes in this summer. But so far there has been no word of any official bid from Wanderers. And recently it has been claimed that Nunes has shunned some big offers in favour of staying with Sporting.
A golden opportunity for Wolves to sell themselves to Nunes. The fact that Wolves are actually playing against Sporting this weekend is potentially ideal. It is an opportunity for the team to show Nunes first-hand what they are about. Hopefully we will see a performance similar to the ones we got against Deportivo Alaves and Besiktas. Nunes would be an absolutely amazing addition for Wolves but it could be a difficult deal to pull off. So if Wolves could get to point where Nunes is actually pushing to join after being impressed, then that would be ideal.
