Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers have made their first major signing of this January transfer window after the official confirmation that winger Chiquinho has joined the club. The 21-year-old Portuguese player has signed for Wolves in a £3m deal. Chiquinho is a Sporting Lisbon product and he joins Wolves from Estoril in the Portuguese top flight.


Sporting Lisbon academy product Chiquinho could be the direct replacement for Spanish international player AdamaTraore who has been linked with a move away from Wolves in the current winter transfer window. He has been seriously linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Chiquinho has penned a four-year deal at Wolves following his move from Portuguese team Estoril. His arrival will increase the number of Portuguese players at the club. The Sporting Lisbon product has already scored three times for Estoril this season.

New Wolves signing Chiquinho can play on either the left wing or the right wing. The winger made his professional debut for Estoril two years as he helped them seal a place in the Portuguese first division.

On his signing, Scott Sellars said that he’s hopeful that the Portugal u-21 international can become the latest player to do great things at the club. Sellars is the sporting director at Wolves. He said that Chiquinho has been performing well in the Portuguese league for some years and that the winger has the talents to thrive at the club and become an excellent signing. The Wolves sporting director said that they have brought a lot of young Portuguese players to the club and they have gone on to achieve big things at the club. He believes that Chiquinho can emulate those Portuguese players.Sellars thereafter asked for patience with the new signing who will need to adapt to a new country and a new league.
